Chongqing is a port city with the largest municipal area and population in China, is situated in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. Chongqing is China's fourth municipality after Beijing, Shanghai, and Tianjin, and within its borders encompasses a wealth of water reserves, mineral resources, dense forests, and abundant flora and fauna. The focal point of the unique Yangtze Three Gorges Dam, Chongqing is a tourist attraction as well as a commercial city.

Dazu Grottos: Dazu lies about 160 km west of Chongqing and has long been known as "the home of stone carvings". The sculptures here chiefly consist of Buddhist images, but there are also separate areas of Confucian and Taoist images, and caves in which the founders of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism are placed together. |
Fengdu Ghost Town: Fengdu is where the devil lives, according to Chinese legend. They say that spirits go to heaven, and evil goes to Fengdu. The town is overlooked by Ming Shan Hill, home of Tianzi, the King of the Dead. The whole place has an eerie feel to it with deserted streets, tower blocks, empty shops and banks. The only people here are those who make a living from supplying visiting cruise boats.

Shennong Stream: Shennong Stream is another tributary of the Yangtze River, and its fast-flowing, crystal clear water runs southwards through deep gorges. The stream races past large and small karst caves, flocks of swallows, sheer cliffs, deep gorges, waterfalls, three-colored springs, rapids, the ancient plank path, a suspended coffin in the cliff, groups of ancient tombs and marvelous karst formations.
Three Gorges: the Three Gorges Dam is the largest water conservancy project ever undertaken by man. Begun in 1994, the body of the dam was completed in 2003, and the whole construction will be competed in 2009. When it is finished it will be 2,335 meters long, 185 meters high, 18 meters wide on the top and 130 meters wide at the bottom. Tourists can have access to the top of the dam and enjoy different kinds of photo opportunities.

Specialties: Food : When you come to Chongqing, you will not to be surprised to hear that the Chinese believe in the saying 'people make food their Heaven'. Chongqing is the birth place of the Hot Pot, and the most famous hot pot restaurant in Chongqing, the Cygnet Hot-Pot Palace, is a must for any visitor.Walking through the city center, you may be attracted by the local snacks. Xiangshan Honey Cake is made of flour and honey balsam and it tastes very crisp and soft as well as sweet. In addition, Shancheng Small Glutinous Rice Balls are fairly sweet. Jiuyuan Steamed Bun with Stuffing has a special taste with salty stuffings of ham, winter bamboo shoots and sweet stuffings of walnut seed, honey Chinese date, and rosy sugar. Chicken Juice Fried Dumpling is made of chopped pig muscles and has chicken juice seasoning.
Shopping: Rich in natural resources, Chongqing produces a great variety of local and special products including valuable Chinese medicinal herbs and famous fruit such as pears, navel oranges, pomeloes, and persimmons. Chongqing is noted for fine quality teas as well - among the most widely known are Chongqing Tuo Tea, Yinping Silver Needle Tea and Xinong Fur Tip Tea.
