Accommodations

SCIC Beijing offers two accommodation options: students' dorms at universities, institutes and local schools, or 2-3 star hotels. Program fees will vary according to the accommodation selected.

SCIC Beijing makes all accommodation reservations and preparations prior to students' arrival. Students are guaranteed accommodation; however, early application is advised as accommodation is subject to availability. Accommodation starts the day before the program and ends the day after the program. For privacy and convenience, single room occupancy is recommended.


Campus Student Dormitory

A university or institute provides an ideal study and living environment. The campus of a Chinese university is quiet, clean and pleasant. Most of our hosting universities are located in the north-west Wudouku district of Beijing (the education district). Universities are generally very close to transport links such as the subway station and are often on many bus routes. Wudouku has many shops, restaurants and a thriving nightlife.

Foreign students at a Chinese university stay in a dormitory building (sometimes students will stay in an apartment or a 2-3 star hotel). Each room is en-suite and is furnished with a desk, bookshelf, air-conditioning, TV, lamp, fridge, and a telephone and internet connection. Rooms are single or shared. There is also a public kitchen and laundry room on each floor.


Meals at universities

Each university has a canteen on campus serving a mix of Western and Chinese food. Meals are very cheap with single dish meals with rice for as little as 5 RMB (US$.60).

Chinese restaurants on campus and in the local area offer meals for 10 - 20 RMB (US$2-4) per person. Western restaurants in the local area cost between 25 and 50 RMB (US$4 - 8) per person per meal. Each campus also offers Muslim food, as there is a high proportion of Muslims in China. Students can also cook for themselves in the kitchen facilities provided in the dormitory.


Hotels (Short Term Course)

Hotel is a good choice for someone studying for a short-term program.  Standard rooms have one double or twin beds, air-conditioning, an en-suite shower/bathroom and satellite television. The hotel offers facilities such as a choice of restaurants and pubs, a health and fitness club with gym, some hotels offer Jacuzzi, indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, massage, bowling, table tennis and games room.
