Designed for: A group of middle and high school students worldwide to attend schools in China from June to August every summer
Aims at: SCIC Students Summer Camp, aimed at promoting study and culture exchanges among teenagers from all over the world and the Chinese mainland.

  Introduction  
 

This is a comprehensive program that combines Chinese language study with Culture & Arts workshops, social and local events, sports activities, community services and sight-seeing program.

Participants will be taught the basic Chinese Language and subjects which related to China¡¯s history & society. This program also allows students to learn and experience first hand the Chinese way of life. This includes learning other aspects of Chinese culture & arts, enjoying local traditional events, community services and sports activities with Chinese students. The camp also provides an ideal opportunity for students to enhance their knowledge in oriental culture by studying Chinese culture and visiting famous cultural and historical attractions.

  Program Descriptions  
 

Language Study and Exchange (Mandarin)

Students will attend morning Mandarin language courses with native Chinese instructors in teaching all levels of classes. The classes focus on developing the four main language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Our instructors prepare active hands-on lessons that enable you to quickly speak in sentences. Students are provided with plenty of opportunities to practice their language skills through a wide range of interesting exercises, interactive activities, and role-plays. Culture & Arts Classes

A wide range of culture related classes are provided, including: Chinese history & geography, society & culture, Chinese Kung Fu, traditional Chinese brush painting, calligraphy, Chinese knot making, kite making, Peking opera face painting, Chinese chess, Chinese cooking, ceramics, and Chinese music & arts appreciation workshops. Social Activities

SCIC camp has scheduled visits to the Panda Zoo, sports schools. museums, culture centers; watch traditional Chinese Kung Fu and acrobatic show; enjoy movies or stage performance; the flag-hoisting ceremony at the Tiananmen Square, shopping in the city. For details, please check here.

Sports Activities

After class, students can be arranged to have a match with local Chinese Students Available sports including soccer, basketball, volleyball, tennis, ping-pong. On raining days, you may go to the on-campus nice gym, which has swimming pool and exercise room. Most interestingly, you can have a party with local Chinese students. Community Services Day

Community services are an educational and meaningful activity for students. There are many ways that students can get involved and help out in the Chinese Community. Our specially arranged Community Services Day provides an ideal opportunity for students to connect to Chinese Communities by participating in a variety of community services such as English Teaching for school children and students who have disabilities, other services that include cleaning public facilities, serving in local communities and planting trees etc.

Visit Historical Attractions

Students will see more of China with our weekly organized tours to the attractions of the destination city, visits to the Forbidden City, Tianan Men Square, Great Wall, Summer Palace and Temple of Heaven, Also the Panda Zoo and Ethnic Culture Park in Beijing. For details, please check here

Weekend Tours

Weekend Camps to other cities such as Shaolin Temple, Wudang Mountains, Terracotta Warriors, Pingyao, Mongolia and Shanghai etc organized by SCIC, Admission, transportation and English speaking guides are provided at no extra cost. These tours provide an opportunity for students to deepen their knowledge of China's rich history and cultural heritage.

Visit Chinese Families

You will have chance visiting a carefully-selected local family who considers it a privilege to welcome students like you into their home. Host families open their home and heart to you, providing meals and a caring environment. You will participate in their family and community activities, attend cultural and recreational events with them while learning more than you ever imagined about another country and culture, about the world and its diversity and about yourself.

  Once you are in China  
 

Transportation
Our staff will meet you at Beijing International Capital Airport and will be holding an orange colored SCIC sign to identify them. A trip welcome pack will be handed out to every participant so you can start enjoying your China experience straight away, whilst our staff introduces the program on the coach. We will take you back to the Airport once the trip finished. Our private coach and driver will be provided during your trip in China for safe and pleasant transport to and from the hotels and to every place where the activities take place, such the historical sites, training places, downtown in Beijing and the train station.

Accommodation
Participants will stay at either 3 or 4 Star hotels depending on the location of the activities taking place during your visit in China. Standard rooms have one double or twin beds, air-conditioning, en suite shower/bath room and satellite television. Some hotels offer facilities such as choice of restaurants and pubs, Health and Fitness club with gym, Jacuzzi, indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, massage, bowling, table tennis and games room. All the accommodation we have selected is generally good condition, with two people sharing a standard room.

Food & Beverages
All meals (breakfast, lunch & dinner) are included in the trip except last two free days. Breakfast in the hotel is generally buffet style with a choice of both Western style and Chinese food, but lunches and dinners in local restaurants are mostly Chinese food. Chinese tea, soft drinks and Chinese beer are served with lunch and dinner and there are plenty of dishes available for vegetarians. If you have special requirements for your meals, please inform us on the registration form in advance. (Plus the wonderful welcome dinner and the farewell party).

Briefing & Orientation
Participants will be given a comprehensive orientation session on the first day of arrival. This briefing will provide all the information about our trip including local map, itinerary, timetable, emergency contact numbers, plus the locations of amenities such as pubs, supermarkets and post office. In addition, participants will be taken on a brief tour around the hotel and then on a more extensive walking tour of the neighborhood so you can orientate yourself and make the most of local facilities.

Flights Information
Our trip programs do not include the return flights from your home country, so flight tickets should be obtained prior by yourself or the group leader or school teacher to departure. This can be done by phoning the airline direct e.g. Air-China, BA or via a travel agencies in your local area. Alternatively tickets can be bought via the Internet (e.g.www.expedia.com).

Visa Instruction
Chinese visas can be easily applied for 3 months prior to the trip. This can be done by visiting the Visa Office or Chinese Embassy in your home country. We will provide all the information and documents for your visa application. All applicants should submit an application in person or through a third party (e.g. travel agency). If you come to the trip as a group from martial arts schools, the group visa can be arranged either by the group leader or the school teacher.

Travel Insurance
It is highly recommended that all travelers have adequate travel insurance cover, especially for the purposes of flight cancellation and medical expanses. You will be responsible for arranging it yourself with the insurance companies or travel agencies in your home country.
