  Introduction  
 

These unique Chinese Language programs are aimed at people interested in learning and improving Chinese language both in oral speaking and Chinese character writing through class instruction, after-class tuition and optional electives.

The programs not only provide a unique opportunity for students to learn authentic Chinese Language (Mandarin), but also allow students to learn and experience real Chinese life. This includes learning other aspects of Chinese culture & arts, enjoying local activities, and visiting famous cultural and historical attractions.

SCIC Chinese Language program aims to help students learn and improve their Chinese both in speaking and character writing.

SELECTED UNIVERSITIES

Our language classes are carried out at the Beijing Language and Culture University, the first university assigned by government to provide Chinese Language courses for overseas students. It offers classes covering all aspects of language learning: reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, phonetics, and vocabulary.


STUDY MATERIALS

All textbooks for your program will be provided free of charge by SCIC. Any learning materials will be issued one day before the course starts.


LANGUAGE CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Beginner Classes focus on developing basic oral expression, listening comprehension, reading comprehension, writing, and grammar. Up-to-date materials are used to introduce modern day China, its social and economic life, culture, history, and literature.

PROGRESS & CERTIFICATE

Participants' progress is assessed by continuous homework assignments and tests throughout the program. All participants will be presented with an official certificate on the language course study by Beijing Language & Culture University at the end of the program.

 
  ADDITIONAL CLASSES  
 

Language Tutorial

These private training sessions are arranged for students who would like to learn additional styles, techniques and skills after the set sessions or during free time. This two hour training session can be arranged once a week.

Language exchange partners

This program provides martial arts, language and cultural interaction between participants and Chinese students, marking the beginning of many lasting friendships. The program provides the perfect opportunity to practice martial arts and language, and encourages cultural and social exchange. Participants can meet at their own convenience.

Social activities

A wide range of activities will be organized throughout the program including a Peking Duck feast, Chinese Hot Pot night, karaoke, Chinese teahouse, Peking opera and souvenir shopping. Our dinners and social evenings are fun filled events and are a great way to meet other people from all over the world. Activities are usually arranged once a week. More info

Culture & arts workshops

Culture and arts workshops such as Chinese calligraphy, brush painting, Chinese medicine, traditional musical instruments, making Chinese dumpling etc. are a unique opportunity for students to learn and experience some of China¡¯s traditional skills and crafts. All workshops are taught and demonstrated by professionals of each craft. Workshops are usually held once a week. More info

Weekend tours

Specially arranged weekend tours provide a good opportunity for students to discover Beijing's major historical and cultural attractions, including the Great Wall, Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, Lama Temple, Tian'anmen Square, and the Forbidden City. Admission, transportation and English speaking guides are included in the program fees. These tours provide an opportunity for students to deepen their knowledge of China's rich history and cultural heritage. More info

Airport receptions in China
Our staff will meet you at Beijing International Capital Airport and will be holding an orange coloured SCIC sign. Immediately you can start enjoying your Chinese experience, whilst our staff provides a brief introduction to Beijing on the coach. We will take you back to the Airport once the program has finished. (Please send flight details at least 10 days in advance, so the airport pick-up and drop-off can be arranged on time).

Program briefing
Students will be given a comprehensive briefing session on the second day. This will provide all the information about your study program including a Beijing map, local map, Chinese & English dictionary, timetable and emergency contact numbers, plus the locations of amenities such as pubs, supermarkets and post office.

Orientation
Students will be taken on a more extensive walking tour of the campus and the surrounding areas, highlighting campus and surrounding facilities, classrooms and administration buildings, as well as the neighborhood so you can acquaint yourself with the new surroundings and make the most of the local facilities.

Name card and emergency contact card
Participants for this program will be provided a personalized name card with your contact information and hotel address in Chinese and English for your convenience. In case of emergency, we also provide a card with the SCIC address written in Chinese, and contact names and telephone numbers of access SCIC staff

Medical assistance
Our programs include International SOS Membership. This provides access to medical advice and assistance from international doctors 24 hours a day, located in SOS alarm centers throughout China and other countries.

Visa documents
An invitation letter and admission notice is required to obtain a Chinese visa. These documents are provided by the SCIC when enrollment has been completed and all program fees have been paid. Participants attending this beginner study program, up to 12 weeks, are required to apply for an F (study) visa.
