  Further Travel Info

Once you are in China

Transportation
Our staff will meet you at Beijing International Capital Airport and will be holding an orange colored SCIC sign to identify them. A trip welcome pack will be handed out to every participant so you can start enjoying your China experience straight away, whilst our staff introduces the program on the coach. We will take you back to the Airport once the trip finished. Our private coach and driver will be provided during your trip in China for safe and pleasant transport to and from the hotels and to every place where the activities take place, such the historical sites, training places, downtown in Beijing and the train station.

Accommodation
Participants will stay at either 3 or 4 Star hotels depending on the location of the activities taking place during your visit in China. Standard rooms have one double or twin beds, air-conditioning, en suite shower/bath room and satellite television. Some hotels offer facilities such as choice of restaurants and pubs, Health and Fitness club with gym, Jacuzzi, indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, massage, bowling, table tennis and games room. All the accommodation we have selected is generally good condition, with two people sharing a standard room.

Food & Beverages
All meals (breakfast, lunch & dinner) are included in the trip except last two free days. Breakfast in the hotel is generally buffet style with a choice of both Western style and Chinese food, but lunches and dinners in local restaurants are mostly Chinese food. Chinese tea, soft drinks and Chinese beer are served with lunch and dinner and there are plenty of dishes available for vegetarians. If you have special requirements for your meals, please inform us on the registration form in advance. (Plus the wonderful welcome dinner and the farewell party).

Briefing & Orientation
Participants will be given a comprehensive orientation session on the first day of arrival. This briefing will provide all the information about our trip including local map, itinerary, timetable, emergency contact numbers, plus the locations of amenities such as pubs, supermarkets and post office. In addition, participants will be taken on a brief tour around the hotel and then on a more extensive walking tour of the neighborhood so you can orientate yourself and make the most of local facilities.

Flights Information
Our trip programs do not include the return flights from your home country, so flight tickets should be obtained prior by yourself or the group leader or school teacher to departure. This can be done by phoning the airline direct e.g. Air-China, BA or via a travel agencies in your local area. Alternatively tickets can be bought via the Internet (e.g.www.expedia.com).

Visa Instruction
Chinese visas can be easily applied for 3 months prior to the trip. This can be done by visiting the Visa Office or Chinese Embassy in your home country. We will provide all the information and documents for your visa application. All applicants should submit an application in person or through a third party (e.g. travel agency). If you come to the trip as a group from martial arts schools, the group visa can be arranged either by the group leader or the school teacher.

Travel Insurance
It is highly recommended that all travelers have adequate travel insurance cover, especially for the purposes of flight cancellation and medical expanses. You will be responsible for arranging it yourself with the insurance companies or travel agencies in your home country

Taking and Exchanging Money
We recommend you taking sterling or US dollar traveler cheques, which are safe and easier to cash in most of the banks in Beijing. Major credit cards such as the Visa, Master card or American Express are widely accepted in most of the hotels and some of the shops and restaurants. Cash as Sterling, Euro or US dollars can be changed into local currencies in the major banks. As all the transfers, tour sites entrance fees, airport taxes and most of the meals etc are paid for, you only need to carry a small amount of cash for convenience or personal use.

Vaccination and Health
Short trips of less than 90 days generally do not require vaccinations. Please consult your GP for further advice.

Local Weather Conditions
Beijing has cold, dry winters and hot summers, which can be wet and very humid. However, the time you are going to China is in the spring season that is usually warm and sunny, with an average temperature of around 8 to 18 degree. (Note: Local conditions at the time of travel may result in modifications to the tour content)

Drinking Water
Bottled and boiled water is safe to drink. A bottle of mineral water costs around 20 pence. We do not recommend drinking tap water directly although it is safe for brushing teeth, washing, etc.

Electricity Supply
Electricity is at 220volts and 50HZ in China. Hotel rooms are equipped with hair drier and electrical shaving point. Generally power points are the two-pin type, so it might be necessary to bring a universal adapter if you require its use.

Other Services
We are happy to provide further travel information and assistance for trip participants if they require travel to other parts of China such as Shanghai and Hong Kong, or other oriental countries such as Japan, Thailand and Singapore. We also will help someone who would like to extend his or her study and stay in China after the trip has finished.
