Ermei
Mountain
The Emei Mountain
is the Buddhist site of Puxian Bodhisattva. It is said that
the Buddhism was introduced to Emei Mountain in the first centray
A.D. After nearly 2000 years development, abundant Buddhist
culture heritage were left in the Emei Mountain, and many dignitary
were trained, thus the Emei Mountain gradually has become the
Buddhist Holy Land which a great affect on China and the world
as well. The Buddhist statues in the temple are made by clay
sculpture and the woodcarving, jade, copper, and iron cast,
porcelain, etc, and all with vivid sculpt and exquisite technique.
The Puxian riding elephant copper cast statue in the Wannian
Temple could be said s a super excellent one in the mountain,
and it is the first class protected cultural relic of China.
The martial art of Emei Mountain is one of the three famous
genres of China and enjoys high prestige in and out of China.
Leshan
-- World's Largest Stone Buddha Statue
The city of Leshan, 167 kilometers from Chengdu, is located
at the confluence of three rivers -- the Minjaing, Qingyijiang,
and Dadu. Dating back more than two thousand years, it has
been a prosperous town with beautiful scenery attractive to
common people and great writers and scholars alike. The towering
Soaring to the Clouds Hill (Lingyunshan) about half a kilometer
east of Leshan town is the site of many historical buildings,
temples, and stone tablets with inscriptions and calligraphic
works by celebrated writers over the dynasties. It is also
the site of the world's largest stone statue of Buddha.
Panda
Breeding Center
Chinese zoos are often equated to animal prisons by Western
visitors. Fortunately Chengdu¡¯s Giant Panda Breeding Center
strays far from the norm. The research base is truly groundbreaking
for country that pushes aside most environmental and ecological
concerns due to its overpopulation issues. The base has a
research lab, museum, panda kindergarten, and adult panda
grounds. In total the base has 45 pandas. The children stay
in the panda kindergarten area until they are three years
old. Then they can hold their own in the adult grounds.
Jiuzhaigou
¨Cthe one of the most beautiful natural spots in China
Jiuzhaigou is a narrow strip of lowland, four hundred kilometers
long, in the Minshan Mountain Range in Nanping County, northeast
Sichuan. It got its name because there are nine Tibetan villages
in the valley. As it is a remote place with unusually charming
scenery and few inhabitants, it is often called the "wonderland
on earth." The valley, surrounded by snow-capped mountains,
is covered with luxuriant primitive forests and dotted by
more than a hundred lakes and ponds of various sizes. At the
bottom of the clear blue lakes, stones and waterweeds twinkle
in the sun, producing a rainbow of colors. As the valley is
of a terraced topography, waterfalls are created between lakes
on different levels, the biggest drop being over twenty meters.
The roaring sound of the falls echoes through the valley.
